Join us for our 9th summer of digital fun. This summer, we are offering morning and afternoon week-long programs in robotics engineering, stop-motion animated movie making, computer video game creation, Anime, & 3D game design. Kids have a blast while learning skills that will help them in school and beyond. Choose a morning and afternoon class for a full day of supervised summer camp fun.
Each child is provided with their own computer to work on during class. Students receive both individual and group instruction from our well qualified staff. We have small classes. Not all classes are offered at all locations. This year’s classes are (click on a class for a description):

Roaring into Robots: What’s NeXT: Ages 8-14
This exciting class teaches you how to build and program the LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robots, the coolest robot available. You will use your new skills to meet such challenges as reacting to intruders, moving objects to different locations, stinging an intruder with a robot tail, or beating your opponent at LEGO® Sumo, a BBB favorite.
You don’t need any experience with robotics or programming to begin your robotic adventure. Students who took our robotics After School Class can take this for a more solid foundation or move on to the Advanced Robot Challenges. All robot classes will be taught with the new LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robot. The new robot system includes a new programming language, a new building system, and new sensors, including a sound sensor and ultrasonic sensor.
Advanced Robot Challenges: Ages 8-14
We’ll challenge your engineering and programming skills with the LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robot. Want to learn how to program a robot with a bluetooth cell phone? Build a walking bot? Use the new ultrasonic sensor to react to movement or the sound sensor to react to different sounds? Program the new servo motors for precise movement? The possibilities and challenges are endless.
You can work on individual challenges, challenge others, or pair up and work as a team. This course is for students who have experience with building and programming LEGO® Mindstorms® robots. Students should have a basic understanding of how to use sensors, motors and repeat blocks. This class provides new challenges each session and can be taken multiple times. All robot classes will be taught with the LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robot. The new robot system includes a new programming language, a new building system, and new sensors, including a sound sensor and ultrasonic sensor.
NXT Robotics Master Class: Ages 7-14
Are you a robotics master? Take this class and find out. This class is for those who have taken Roaring into Robots and Advanced Robot Challenges. You’ll be presented with challenges you may not think can be completed. You’ll work with, or compete against, other robotics masters. Can you build a 4-legged walker? Can you make a robot that climbs a wall? Can you make a gear shift with a remote control? Bring your thinking cap, this stuff is hard!
Game Creation: Ages 8-14
If you think playing computer games is fun, think what a blast learning to program your own games will be. Your imagination is the limit as you use GameMaker software to create maze, strategy, and a variety of other types of games. You’ll learn about creating sprites, objects, events and actions. Design a room, make it look the way you want, add objects and play your game. We’ll teach you how to display health, lives, score, splash screens and high score tables. Using drag and drop programming, you’ll be creating exciting, professional looking games you can play with your friends.
You can keep making games when you get home as the software is an inexpensive download from the Internet. If you think you’ve got a great idea for a game, you want to see what it would be like to be a game designer, or you just think computer games are fun, this class is for you. You must be experienced using a computer to take this class. If you’ve taken our Game Creation After School Class, this class goes into greater depth and reinforces previous learning.
Advanced GameMaker Techniques: Ages 8-14
This class is for those already familiar with GameMaker who want to take their game creation skills to the next level. We will examine gravity, platforms, bosses, levels, effects, GML (GameMaker’s built in programming language) and learn how to keep expanding our skills. You must have already taken a Game Creation class with us or in some way demonstrate your ability to keep up with this class as basic GameMaker skills will be assumed.
GameMaker Master Class: Ages 8-14
Become a GameMaker Master. This class is for those who know how to make games in GameMaker and want to work on their own projects with teacher assistance. You will learn advanced techniques, including how to write code, while working on your own game or working on the new Space Tek game. You must have taken at least one GameMaker class (such as Advanced GameMaker) and be comfortable making games on your own.
3D Game Design: Ages 12 to 16
Create a 3D landscape, add bonus items, hidden treasures and characters and play in your own world! This exciting new class is for students who have completed the 6th grade. You’ll learn how to create a 3D environment, light it, and put in characters for first-person or third-person action. We will be using 3D GameStudio.
Introduction to Anime : Ages 12 to 16
This class uses computer software to teach students how to create their own anime, or animated stories. Students will learn how to draw objects and characters, how to use timelines, ‘bones’ and layers to animate their characters and scenes, how to use a storyboard to plot their movies, and how to add text and sounds to their animations. The goal of the class will be for students to complete a short anime movie. This class is great for anyone interested in art, animation and movie making. You must have graduated the 5th grade to take this class.
Exploring Bits, Bytes & Bots: Ages 8-14
This class is the perfect introduction to Bits, Bytes & Bots’ offerings. Students will learn how to make stop-motion animated movies, build and program LEGO® Mindstorms® robots and create their own computer game.
Make a Movie: Ages 8-14
A Brick film is an animated film that uses LEGO® characters and pieces to tell a story. If you’ve ever wanted to direct your own movies or like making up stories, then this camp is for you. Using digital cameras, Stop Motion Pro animation software, and video editing software, you’ll create multi-scene movies with transitions, titles, credits, sound effects and narration. Design your own set with backgrounds, characters, and scenery. The stories are up to your imagination.
Bits, Bytes & Beyond: Ages 6-7
The computer camp for 6 – 7 year olds. You’ll build and play with real LEGO® Mindstorms robots and make animated movies that you can take home on CDs. This class meets for 3 hours rather than the 3 hours, 30 minutes of the other classes.
*Robots are for use by students in class only. The robots are expensive, and students will not be able to take them home.
